European Patent Attorney

Locations: Cambridge/London, UK

We are looking for commercially minded, qualified European Patent Attorneys who want to use their Intellectual Property expertise in a wider business context and make a difference for our clients. To set IP Strategies for our clients and guide a team of globally located IP professionals and drive the delivery of strong IP portfolios that align with our clients’ business goals. You will need strong patent experience and an ability to be flexible in your approach to succeed in this role. Previous experience in working in-house, or in a startup is a big plus.

Typical tasks:

  • Proactively managing and monitoring execution of deliverables.
  • Reviewing of drafting and prosecution of patent applications.
  • Conducting tactics of patent prosecution and enforcement. 
  • Reviewing official correspondence from the patent offices, and guiding the IP team to deliver.
  • Communicating directly with clients about their IP matters and working closely with external partners, including face-to-face meetings and phone calls from day one.
  • Reviewing incoming instructions and being responsible for your own relevant deadlines, replying where appropriate, and saving to electronic files.
  • Managing changes in project scope and updating clients on status.
  • Supporting other IP professionals with their work, attending client meetings to support in technical conversations.
  • Providing training to the rest of the team globally.
  • Building up a team of IP professionals and launching new Patent and IP offerings.

What we are looking for:

  • Qualified as a European Patent Attorney (required).
  • 5+ years of relevant domain expertise: Software & Computing, MedTech, Life Sciences.
  • Experience of working in English, with fluency and accuracy in both written and spoken.
  • Superb communication skills with the ability to explain legal concepts to non-attorneys on a regular basis over the phone and online, providing clear simple advice.
  • Ability to manage high volume, complex projects, meet deadlines, prioritise workload and coordinate multiple parties.
  • Being willing and able to cover a wide range and level of tasks and technical domains – from thinking strategically to troubleshooting detail where needed.
  • Effective team coordinator and working closely with IP portfolio managers.
  • Being comfortable in a fast-paced environment with a high degree of autonomy and accountability.
  • Experience in startups or general business would be a big plus.
  • Experience in trade marks would be a plus.

Trade Mark Attorney

Locations: Cambridge/London, UK

Trade Mark attorney who is a team player, with strong trade mark experience in building IP portfolios and an ability to be flexible in your approach to succeed in this role. We are looking for specialists who wish to use their Intellectual Property expertise in a wider business context, to provide hands-on IP support that aligns with our clients’ business goals. Previous experience in working in-house, or in a startup is a big plus. Qualified UK or EU Trade Mark attorney with strong written and verbal communication. 

We are looking for open-minded people with good social and management skills who wish to gain Intellectual Property expertise in a wider business context. A perfect candidate will champion a better, faster and simpler way of doing things. We highly value the can-do attitude of the successful candidate and a willingness to take on new challenges. You will need fluent English and an ability to be flexible in your approach to succeed in this role. Previous experience in startups is a big plus.

Typical tasks:

  • Provide advice on a wide range of trade mark related issues, both non-contentious (such as registrability of marks) and contentious (such as opposition chances and risks).
  • Reviewing trade mark searches and clearance.
  • Developing trade mark filing strategies & reviewing client portfolios to improve their brand protection.
  • Client management (from A to Z, i.e. from client acquisition to account reviews).
  • Managing budgets, client communications and resources.
  • Proactively managing and monitoring execution of deliverables.
  • Managing changes in project scope and updating clients on status.
  • Reviewing incoming emails, noting instructions and relevant deadlines, replying where appropriate, and saving to electronic files.
  • Reviewing official correspondence from e.g. trade mark offices and reporting to clients with recommendations along with arrangement of invoices.
  • Drafting and checking descriptions of goods and services, oppositions, appeals, responses to trade mark offices.
  • Instructing external parties according to the customers’ orders.
  • Supporting other client managers in trade mark matters.
  • Providing training to the other team members.
  • Building up a team of IP professionals and launching new Trade Mark offerings.

What we are looking for:

  • Qualified as a UK or EU Trade Mark Attorney.
  • 5+ years of experience (required).
  • Solid on-line research skills and knowledge of on-line trademark search databases.
  • Experience filing electronic documents with trade mark offices.
  • Able to manage high volume, complex projects, meet deadlines, prioritise workload and coordinate multiple parties.
  • Must be proactive, organised, detail oriented and demonstrate accuracy and consistency.
  • Experience in startups or general business would be a big plus.
  • Great project management and organisation skills.

Innovation Consultant

Locations: Cambridge/London, UK

Innovation minded team player that enjoys working with cutting edge technology and brands. You will work closely with our clients in running innovation projects, workshops and spotting new ideas and technology in R&D and product development projects. Working with the inventors, engineers and scientists, you will support them in finding the best ways of protecting the ideas, concepts and Intellectual Property (IP) generated.

Together with your colleagues at Basck, you will be part of a team building high-quality IP portfolios  for our clients giving them competitive advantage and securing future revenues. You will also be working hand in hand with the client teams from C-level executives to data scientists and engineers to bring idea capture and IP awareness to their day to day activities to drive an innovative culture. You will be working with patent and trade mark attorneys, as well as analysts, engineers and lawyers who will execute strategies set and project deliveries. 

We are looking for driven and well organised people with good social and project management skills who can build strong relationships and have experience in Innovation and Intellectual Property in a wider business context. Previous experience working in a startup and R&D environment is a big plus.

Patent Associate

Locations: Cambridge, UK

  • Reviewing official correspondence from the patent offices, and preparing and reviewing responses. 
  • Proactively managing and monitoring execution of deliverables to build clients’ portfolios of IP rights. 
  • Communicating directly with clients about their IP matters and working closely with external partners, including face-to-face meetings and phone calls from day one. 
  • Reviewing incoming instructions and being responsible for your own relevant deadlines, replying where appropriate, and saving to electronic files.

What we are looking for:

  • Engineering / Science background or experience in a similar field is required (preferred domain expertise: ICT, Software & Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Blockchain, Med Tech or Life Sciences).

Administrative Support

Locations: Cambridge, UK

Your main responsibility will be coordinating and executing submission of documents to various Intellectual Property Offices in a correct and timely manner. You will also be responsible for making payments of official fees where such apply. You will need fluent English, good Excel command and an ability to be flexible in your approach to succeed in this role. 

We are looking for open-minded people with good social and management skills who wish to gain Intellectual Property expertise in a wider business context. Previous experience in startups is a big plus. We are looking for candidates that will champion a better, faster and simpler way of doing things. We highly value the can-do attitude of the successful candidate and a willingness to take on new challenges.

Typical tasks:

  • Handling correspondence with clients, Intellectual Property Offices, other external parties, arranging for and scanning incoming post. 
  • Preparing and submitting documents at various Intellectual Property Offices. 
  • Payment of official fees to various Intellectual Property Offices. 
  • Instructing external parties according to the customers’ orders.
  • Preparing and reporting correspondence to clients and assisting with management of invoices. 
  • Reviewing incoming emails, noting instructions in the system and being responsible for overseeing deadlines, replying where appropriate. 
  • Assisting with the arrangement of events (physical or online). 
  • Otherwise assisting in other administrative tasks to ensure a smooth office workflow.

What we are looking for:

  • Fluent English, written and spoken. We use it both internally and externally. 
  • Efficiency in handling digital online forms (training provided).
  • Overall Interest in Intellectual Property (no experience necessary). 
  • Ability to multitask and inherent attention to detail. 
  • Experience of Excel and other Microsoft applications to an advanced level. 
  • Ability to communicate in a professional way with clients and the team.
